The journey from San Cristobal to Palenque was not so very far in terms of miles, but the twisting road that wound down into a steamy jungle environment, took 4 hours. The outward journey was broken up however, with stops at the Agua Azul and Misol Ha Falls. The picture of myself on the home page is taken in front of the Agua Azul falls. This is not a steep drop like Misol Ha, but rather a series of tumbling cascades that shine a rich blue colour given sunny conditions.

Misol Ha on the other hand is an impressive sheer drop and one can walk right
behind the wall of falling water. By now the steam of the steamy jungle had thickened into something approximating rain. A few miles on at the mayan ruins of Palenque there was no doubting it. It was raining well and we only had the option of about 40 minutes at the site. I think I decided then that I would have to revisit this amazing place later in the week and chance better weather. It was, however, an impressive site in its jungle setting with swirling wisps of cloud licking the trees.
